What are the types of tinnitus treatment available?
There is no single approach to tinnitus patients as there are many causes of tinnitus. Usually a comprehensive approach is done including a combination of tinnitus education, patient counselling, sound therapy and medical intervention. In cases where medical and psychological care is not required, patients can opt for the following treatment:
Appropriate sound amplification with open fit hearing aids and use of sound generations are a common well-known measure of reducing the symptoms of tinnitus by diverting an individual’s attention away from the tinnitus and focusing on environmental sounds (Sweetow & Henderson, 2010a).

Patient education can also help correct any misconceptions towards tinnitus can also help individuals change their feelings, behaviours and thoughts and reduce their reaction to the tinnitus.

Tinnitus Retraining Therapy is a combination of patient education, counselling and sound therapy and is known to be clinically effective in reducing the annoyance and impact of tinnitus.
